Social Involvement

How can I help?

  • If you have a vehicle, you can help deliver food baskets to the needy.
  • Packing food baskets for families.
  • Help coaching and tutoring children – for students who know Hebrew and are interested in doing more than 60 hours.
  • If you are good at art, sport dancing etc you can do an activity for kids at the after school daycare.
  • If you are good at fixing you can help elderly fix equipment at their homes.

Volunteers are needed to volunteer on a regular basis.

Every community service opportunity ranging from youth projects and education to working with the poor, all the way to student rallies regarding current events, are within the responsibility of the Social Involvement section of the IDC Aguda.

The ability to promote these ideas resides on three key principles:

  1. An association or connection between the projects and the students at the IDC.  In order to advertise all the associations and organizations there are to offer, there will be a “Community Service Week” held at the beginning of each year. The participants in the fair consist of  organizations that promote social involvement in a wide variety of fields. The goal is to allow each student to find an area they deeply care about and allow them to integrate social action with their academics. Even once the fair is over, the information on these organizations will continue to be available throughout the year.
  2. Student initiatives and social work projects.  The AGUDA of IDC promotes any student initiative that contributes to the public’s well-being and quality. The AGUDA can provide both resources and manpower and has the ability to help every initiative come to life.  Assistance is available at every level: logistics, marketing, administrative, etc.  Omri Ariav is the Coordinator of Student Initiatives. His main job is to help with these initiatives. We urge you to come to the AGUDA for help with every idea, initiative, or community service project you may have.
  3. Providing the opportunity for students to run AGUDA projects.  The AGUDA performs a number of community service projects each year. There is the “Warm Winter” project, which collects student donations of winter clothing and equipment and brings them to families in need.  There is also a project called “Chanukah for the Kids!” where students go to visit children in hospitals, give out gifts and light Chanukah candles with them, as well as many other large and small projects. We are looking for people who are highly motivated and dedicated to community service, and that way we will have a broad scope of effective and successful projects.

I would love to hear any input on existing projects or, of course, any new project or initiative.

AGUDA connects students who are interested in volunteering to local volunteer opportunities.  These projects can be to meet a scholarship requirement, for academic credit or purely by interest.  To volunteer locally in Herzliya, contact the Herzliya Volunteer Office at 49 Hanadiv Street, whose coordinator is Kelly and can be reached at 09 954 2734.
